Complaints about noise from seagoing vessels at berth are increasingly becoming an environmental issue. To achieve sustainable port development and operations there is a desire to reduce the problem of noise pollution.

Port of Guangzhou – Onshore Power Supply Project
When the ship shore electricity system is in use, the auxiliary engines can be turned off by ships in port, which can greatly reduce carbon dioxide and exhaust emissions of air pollutants (NOx, SOX, PM).
CIVITAS PORTIS project
In September 2016, Antwerp hosted the CIVITAS PORTIS kick-off meeting. The project involves 33 partners from five port cities working together on sustainable mobility in terms of commuter’s and private traffic as well as transport and logistics.
Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – Clean Air Action Plan 2017
The CAAP 2017 Update contains 14 strategies to reduce emissions from sources in and around the Ports, plan for zero-emissions infrastructure, encourage freight efficiency, and address energy resources.
