The Dalia Sailing School is a community sailing programme launched in 2022 in Fahs Anjra, Northern Morocco, developed by Tanger Med Foundation and managed by the Dalia Water Sports Association, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation. Located along the coast adjacent to one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors, the project was created to give children from surrounding rural villages free access to structured sailing training, transforming the sea from a distant horizon into a space for learning, discipline, and personal growth.
The programme combines sport and education through year-round training in sailing fundamentals, navigation, weather reading, environmental awareness, equipment handling, and teamwork, delivered on land and at sea under certified supervision. It is integrated into Morocco’s national “Studies & Sports” pathway, enabling students from local schools to follow a structured academic and sporting journey. Built on a 900m² coastal site in sheltered waters, the school operates with a fleet of Optimist dinghies, ILCA boats, and windsurf boards, supported by safety vessels and dedicated transport ensuring access for children across the province.
Since its launch, the Dalia Sailing School has trained 797 students, with 41% girls, and has expanded steadily year after year. It has become a national reference in grassroots sailing development, producing athletes who progressed from beginner level to national and international competition, including African and Arab championships. Beyond sport performance, the project promotes inclusion, discipline, and environmental awareness, while opening access to structured maritime education for children from underserved rural communities.
