Port of Marseille – Flow Pass

The Marseille port platform is a crossing site for a multitude of flows, whether physical, energy related or informational. The fluidity and continuous optimization of these flows is one of the Smart Port’s operational objectives, with a view to increasing the Port’s performance and reducing its environmental impact. Concerning physical flows, many actions and innovations are already being undertaken or implemented, based on sources such as the declaration of goods and vessels in the various information systems in force in the port. However, the 900 cameras present on the two basins of the port represent a source that has not yet been fully utilized for the purpose of using the captured real-time information for optimizing road or rail flows.

The co-innovation work between the Port of Marseille (GPMM) and Eura Nova experts made it possible to develop the first version of a solution for optimizing these port flows. Based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, Flow Pass is the tool for analyzing flows, identifying congestion and valorizing the port’s assets. Eura Nova has developed a set of algorithms to increase the information available in the video images while complying with current legislation. Based on the detection and tracking of vehicles, a measure of vehicle speed was calculated to build a congestion identification and prediction model.

Beyond the validation of the implemented models, the co-innovation between GPMM and Eura Nova has led to the development of a decision support tool for security operators. In addition, the application includes the identification of the current state of localized traffic as well as alerting and forecasting for up to 6 hours ahead. The first version of Flow Pass meets the port’s need to anticipate traffic peaks and to propose alternative solutions to the different actors in the port area.
