The cyber threat is REAL, threat actors are constantly exploiting organizations, cyber-attacks are more sophisticated, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are on the rise. Being a critical infrastructure, the Port of Los Angeles (Port) generates ~$333 billion in trade yearly and any cyber incident impacting the supply chain is detrimental to the entire country. It is our organization’s top priority to reduce cybersecurity risks and to protect the supply chain at all costs.
In 2022, The Port became the first seaport in the world to establish a Cyber Resilience Center (CRC) and to-date continues to be the only port with a CRC to manage cybersecurity risks at the ecosystem level. Due to the explosion of Artificial Intelligence technologies, the CRC is evolving to fight AI with AI against threat actors that are weaponizing AI tools for criminal and offensive reasons. On March 3, 2025, the CRC officially implemented cutting-edge AI Deepfake technology to detect and prevent AI generated content to safeguard stakeholders and the supply chain. A core feature of this technology is to identify whether content is authentic or AI generated.
The Port is proud to introduce the first AI Security Operations Cyber Resilience Center to-date in the maritime industry. The CRC, a Port Community Cyber Defense System, was collaboratively designed by Port and its supply chain stakeholders (terminal operators, shipping lines, trucking sector, rail sector…etc.) and is being operated under a public-private partnership model with IBM. The CRC provides detection and protection against cyber incidents including AI Deepfakes impacting our supply chain. This first-of-its-kind system also greatly improves the quality, quantity, and speed of cyber information sharing, as well as the collective knowledge of threats within the Port’s ecosystem. Safeguarding the supply chain is our organization’s top priority, CRC membership is FREE to all stakeholders at the Port.
