Port of Duqm – Champions in e-waste recycling

In September 2023, Port of Duqm Company (PODC) signed a milestone agreement with Evergreen Gulf Recycling Hub, a leading e-waste recycling facility in Salalah with the capacity to process up to 20,000 tonnes of electronic waste annually. The partnership provides a critical pathway for the responsible disposal and recycling of electronic materials generated by PODC operations.

To facilitate employee and stakeholder participation, PODC installed e-waste collection boxes at its offices in Muscat and Duqm. In a strong demonstration of social responsibility, all proceeds from the recycling process are reinvested into initiatives that benefit the local community. As part of its broader awareness efforts, PODC launched an e-waste field campaign in Al Wusta Governorate in May 2025, with the support of His Excellency Sheikh Badr bin Nasser Al Farsi, Wali of Duqm. The campaign saw active participation from PODC staff, local students, and community members, successfully collecting dozens of kilograms of e-waste in its first week alone.

Between September 2023 and May 2025, PODC recycled a total of 0.5 tons of e-waste. By year-end, it expects to collect another ton from stakeholders, reinforcing its commitment to circular economy practices. As part of its digitalization strategy, used hard drives are securely destroyed in compliance with National Records and Archives Authority standards before being recycled—ensuring full data protection.

PODC is increasingly recognized as a national advocate for responsible e-waste management. Future plans include deeper collaboration with local authorities, community outreach, and regular collection programs across Duqm. Through these initiatives, PODC continues to demonstrate leadership in environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and support for Oman’s sustainability objectives.
