MPA Singapore – Maritime Digital Twin

As one of the world’s busiest ports, Singapore operates with limited physical space and no room to fail. MPA recognised that the next frontier of port management lies not in static monitoring, but in predictive and prescriptive decision-making — where agencies, industry, and researchers can test innovations before they occur in the real world.

Developed by MPA, the Maritime Digital Twin (MDT) integrates real-time and historical maritime data with advanced simulation and AI-enabled models to create a dynamic, shared decision environment. More than a visualisation tool, MDT is a “test-before-you-deploy” sandbox — enabling stakeholders to simulate scenarios, validate innovations, and make high-stakes operational and policy decisions with confidence.

MDT delivers measurable value across government and industry. Advanced models — including chemical plume dispersion for ammonia and methanol bunkering, and an AI-driven near-miss detection model — are being integrated directly onto the platform, dramatically accelerating the translation of research into operational tools. Industry pilots aim to improve marine services planning, with potential to reduce harbour craft idle time and minimise last-minute anchorage changes. For government, MDT integrates vessel data, weather feeds, drone inputs, and plume models into a unified operational view, enabling faster multi-agency incident coordination. Its modular, open architecture supports rapid onboarding of new use cases and data sources across stakeholders.
