27 May 2020

MEDports, the association of Mediterranean ports representing port authorities from all shores of the Mediterranean Sea, held a well-attended webinar yesterday on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on ports and maritime transport in the Mediterranean region. The webinar was co-organised by the Union for the Mediterranean, an intergovernmental institution bringing together the European Union Member States and 15 countries from the Southern and Eastern shores of the Mediterranean to promote dialogue and cooperation. IAPH Managing Director Patrick Verhoeven joined panellists from the International Transport Forum at the OECD, the IMO, UNCTAD and the European Commission. In his presentation, Patrick highlighted the results of the Port Economic Impact Barometer and discussed the outlook for global trade digitalisation, decarbonisation and new business opportunities. You can revisit the webinar on the website of the Union for the Mediterranean. Patrick gave the same presentation later that day at a webinar on future shipping trends hosted at the national parliament of Estonia.
