Port of Vigo – Walking the Vigo Blue Trail

Launched in 2024 by the Port Authority of Vigo, “Camiñando polo Porto de Vigo” is an initiative designed to strengthen the bond between the port and the city, while highlighting the port’s rich natural and historical heritage. The project seeks to make the port’s heritage and environment more accessible and visible to residents and visitors alike. Recently, it was recognized as part of the Blue Trails program (March 2025) by the Environmental and Consumer Education Association (ADEAC), which promotes routes that blend nature with environmental interpretation.

The 7.5 km trail starts at Praza da Estrela, home to the Port Authority headquarters, and ends at the Bouzas promenade. It can be explored by foot or bicycle, with a newly inaugurated path that opened in April 2025. Along the trail, visitors will encounter nine physical panels, each summarizing key moments in the development and history of the port. Additionally, a free mobile app is available, guiding users to 49 points of interest, which are categorized into historical, port-related, and cultural themes. The content is available in Spanish, Galician, and English, supported by historical and contemporary photographs.

The project aims to emphasize the Port of Vigo’s historical, environmental, and cultural relevance, underscoring its evolution alongside the city’s growth. By doing so, it fosters sustainable resource use and environmental protection while inviting both residents and visitors to enjoy the port’s beautiful surroundings. Through this initiative, the Port Authority of Vigo seeks to promote greater awareness of the port’s role in the development of the city and its significance to the community, offering an enriching and educational experience for all.
