The Port of Barcelona air quality improvement plan establishes tangible, specific actions to reduce atmospheric emissions produced by the Port of Barcelona’s activity. It targets in particular the emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter smaller than 10 μm (PM10), which are the most problematic air pollutants for the city and the metropolitan region.
The main actions included in the Plan are the following:
- Establishing liquid natural gas (LNG) as an alternative and more sustainable fuel
- Applying environmental discounts for “cleaner” vessels calling at the port
- Deploying an extended network of air quality monitoring stations in the port area
The Port of Barcelona is fully aware of its responsibility in leading the change towards a more environment-friendly model. That’s why it is firmly committed to sustainability as one of the strategic pillars of its development over the coming years.
