Port of Baku – Climate Strategy 2035

The Port of Baku (PoB) has been developed as a green port and logistic center by adhering to international standards and using contemporary technology in various aspects such as energy, waste management, air quality, digitalization, automation, as well as sustainable business practices.

Climate change is one of the most important challenges of our time and PoB wants to play a leadership role in the transportation sector by reducing carbon emissions to the air and working on minimizing environmental footprint by considering ways to decrease impact. The “Port of Baku Climate Strategy 2035” and the respective Action Plan identify actions that mitigate the Port’s contributions to climate change and are expected to lead to the full decarbonization of the port by 2035. The overall objective of this strategic document is to show the PoB ways for a more efficient use of energy in port operations in order to reduce costs, improve the port`s overall efficiency and increase its environmental performance and competitiveness.

The Climate Action Plan is the core component of PoB’s climate strategy and will leverage the Port’s ongoing sustainability efforts and identify strategies and actions to meet the decarbonization goals. The Climate Action Plan comprises detailed information on possible climate actions of the Port, which actions should be prioritized and undertaken by the port on the short- (by 2025), medium- (by 2030) and long- (by 2035) term and describes also which steps shall be taken by the port in order to implement the actions.

As a part of its strategy, PoB has successfully achieved certification under ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management), EcoPorts Port Environmental Review System (PERS), as well as taken the essential steps towards achieving ISO 45001:2018 (Health & Safety Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management) certification.
