Port Authority of NY & NJ – Clean Vessel Incentive (CVI) Program

The purpose of the CVI Program is to encourage ocean-going vessel operator that call at Port Authority marine terminal facilities to make voluntary engine, fuel, and technology enhancements that reduce emissions beyond regulatory environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organization by:

  • Attracting Cleaner Vessels to the Port
  • Encouraging Operational Change to Conserve Fuel
  • Improving Quality of Life
  • Supporting Marine Mammal Protection.

The Clean Vessel Incentive (CVI) Program is one of the actions identified through the Clean Air Strategy for the Port of New York and New Jersey developed in 2009. It enhances the quality of life for those working and living in the region.

The CVI Program provides financial incentives to ocean-going vessel operators to make voluntary engine, fuel, and technology enhancements that go beyond the regulatory environmental standards. CVI also encourages vessel operators to reduce air emission through speed reduction to 10 knots or less within 20 nautical miles of the Territorial Sea Line.
