The Boat Basin Jetty is a critical marine infrastructure facility used by KPT staff, the general public, and the Pakistan Navy for embarkation and disembarkation to and from Keamari jetty to Manora, Baba, and Bhit Islands. It also serves a dual purpose for tourism and recreational access, making it a key public-facing maritime asset.
A detailed inspection in 1998 revealed severe corrosion in the screw piles, which compromised the structural safety and stability of the jetty and posed grave danger to the general public.
The KPT Management initiated the Reconstruction of Jetties at Boat Basin Phase-II project to replace the remaining outlived jetty infrastructure. The project involved the demolition of the outlived jetty structure and the reconstruction of modern jetty with improved dredging depths. The project serves as the lifeline for the local population that includes majority of fishermen.
This initiative highlights the responsibility KPT undertakes for the welfare of the general public by providing them with a safe and accessible environment for daily travel as well as providing a sustainable cruise tourism opportunity. This initiative also aids in community engagement with the local populace and portrays a positive image of Port authority. The project is also now equipped with a state-of-the-art firefighting system which ensures safety among the people using the structure as well as the people around.
