Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority – Rejuvenation of water bodies

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port is located in an area containing various stagnant water bodies with an overall catchment area of up to 690 acres. Through this project, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) decided to take action to preserve these valuable ecosystems while the project was also included as part of the National Action Plan for climate change.

The project addresses the need to rejuvenate stagnant water bodies not only because water is a precious resource but also because of the enhanced ecological value it gives to the surrounding environment. The rejuvenation of the water bodies benefits several components of the rich biodiversity in this area of JNPA, such as birds, butterflies, flora and fauna that depend on this water resource. The project has further positive socio-economic impact by attracting tourism and recreation.
