The Centralised Parking Plaza (CPP) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is India’s first-of-its-kind integrated facility within a port ecosystem, designed to streamline cargo truck movement and enhance port efficiency. Spread over 45 hectares, the CPP can accommodate more than 2830 trucks at a time and acts as a single-window system for document processing, reducing congestion both within and outside the port. This pioneering initiative has set a new benchmark in port operations by seamlessly integrating logistics, digitalisation, and sustainability.
One of the key environmental benefits of the CPP is its significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions. By eliminating the need for trucks to idle or make multiple trips for documentation and entry clearance, the CPP helps in conserving fuel and cutting down on vehicular emissions. Total carbon emissions saved in 2023-2024 was 61,49,302 Kg. These efforts directly align with India’s larger green port initiatives and international commitments towards climate-conscious infrastructure development.
Additionally, the CPP features smart traffic management, container tracking contributing to a cleaner and more energy-efficient environment. It also includes driver rest areas, sanitation facilities, and basic healthcare support, ensuring welfare and safety. By optimising truck turnaround time and reducing wait periods, the plaza enhances overall productivity while supporting eco-friendly logistics.
The successful implementation of the CPP underlines JNPA’s leadership in port-led development that balances operational excellence with sustainability. It exemplifies how infrastructural innovation can address logistical challenges while also advancing environmental responsibility, setting a precedent for other ports in India and across the globe.
