AD Ports Group, Noatum Ports Safaga Terminal – Advancing Sustainable Port Infrastructure

The Noatum Ports Safaga Terminal is a multipurpose cargo terminal and flagship greenfield infrastructure project led by AD Ports Group, in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and Egypt’s Red Sea Ports Authority. With a USD 200 million investment and a 30-year concession, this state-of-the-art terminal is strategically located on the Red Sea and scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026. The project is a milestone in AD Ports Group’s global expansion strategy and commitment to enhancing regional trade.

Spanning over 80 hectares, the terminal will handle up to 450,000 TEUs of containers and 5 million tonnes of dry and general cargo. It features a 1,000-metre quay wall and advanced handling systems, including three Panamax-class STS cranes and six hybrid RTGs—enhancing operational efficiency while reducing emissions. The project is to create more than 1,000 jobs during construction, and hundreds more during operations.

A full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was carried out to guide material selection, energy systems, and passive design strategies to minimize embodied and operational carbon. The terminal integrates climate-resilient infrastructure, including cold-ironing provisions, two sustainably designed LEED Net Zero-certified buildings, and rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installations to power the terminal substations. These systems enable 100% energy offset for buildings and contribute to about 1.1 million kg of CO₂e reduction annually. Stakeholder engagement—aligned with Egyptian and international standards—ensured inclusive planning and led to a robust Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

The project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting clean energy, innovation, and climate action. It is expected to transform Upper Egypt’s logistics landscape, cutting transport distances by up to 500 km and supporting the Golden Triangle Project. Ultimately, it will stimulate growth in mining, agriculture, and industry, reinforcing AD Ports Group’s role in driving sustainable and inclusive economic development in Egypt.
