The PortEconomics portal, an initiative of some of the world’s most renowned port economists, has started a section on COVID-19, which contains various analytical contributions on how the crisis affects the port sector. Recent posts discuss the expected return of cruise traffic, impacts on trade and supply chains, impact on cargo concentration patterns in the Hamburg-Le Havre range and the (un)likelihood of a return to ‘business as usual’ in Europe. Two of the PortEconomics founding fathers, professors Thanos Pallis and Theo Notteboom, are working with the WPSP COVID-19 Task Force in the creation of a weekly Port Economic Impact Barometer, of which the first report will be published on 9 April.
