To remedy congestion problems at import terminals created by decline of demand following lockdown measures in Europe and North America, CMA CGM has followed the example of  its competitor MSC in proposing a delay in transit option for cargoes en route from China by making space available at its transhipment hubs in Kingston, Algeciras, Piraeus, Malta, Tanger Med, Singapore and Busan. This allows cargo owners to temporarily store containers until the final recipient is ready to receive them at their end destination. MSC meanwhile extended its suspension of transit programme to include additional transhipment terminals, including Freeport Bahamas, Gioia Tauro, Klaipéda and Las Palmas.
